I’m going to start this post about Octo-mom off by saiying this. I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT HER!!! I don’t care about the story. Yes, the bitch is sorry, triflin, and crazy with two “R’s.” Yes the doctor should have his license revoked for being irresponsible. Yes, Gloria Allred is a “media whore” or the worse kind. Yes, yes yes. Yes to all of it. But there are two things I do care about. The first one is those fourteen children who will grow up to be adults unleashed on the world. And two, the media frenzy that surrounds this whole thing!
I worked for five years at a Teen Drug and Alcohol Treatment center and another two and a half years as a Court Ordered Supervision Monitor. If you don’t know what a Court Ordered Supervision Monitor is, think back to when Brittany Spears was awarded supervised visits with her kids. I was one of those people who did that type of work. No, I never monitored Brittany and her kids. So get that thought out of your head! But I worked with kids and teens in both of those settings and I saw first hand the effects of neglect on their mental health. Like most people, if you feel no one cares about you, you don’t care about them. And that attitude manifests itself in teens and adults acting out in violent ways. Both to hurt others and to hurt themselves. There have been a rash of killings in the last two weeks with males shooting their parents, grandparents, and/or aunts and uncles. Far too many times, the people killed weren’t even family. They were innocent bystanders who happened to cross paths with someone who had a grudge against the world to settle. And they just happened to be in the way.
What does this have to do with “Octo-mom“? For starters, there is NO WAY she is going to be able give attention to all fourteen of those children. And that means one, two, seven or eight or ALL of those fourteen children will feel neglected. Regardless of what Grandma and Grandpa do to try and help out, you only get one biological mother. And that attention only she can give. There is no way possible that some of those babies won’t get “lost in the shuffle.” And when he, or she, turns 13, 14, or 15, and is full of rage and anger, who might be the victims? Yup, you and me! While it galls me that this woman is getting a house, childcare, and all of the things that go along with having that many kids, FOR FREE, on OUR DIMES, it might just be an investment in our future safety!
The second thing is the media and the over exposure of this whole thing. I’m sick of all of it. The final straw for me was a picture of people with cameras, obstensibly the paparazzi, actually standing in front of AND HANGING OFF of the car she and some of her children were in. Pardon the pun, but there is something wrong with that picture. Read the rest of this entry »
